We stay with you throughout your Post Office energy contract
Once your contract is set up, our service just keeps going.
Clearly, the main part of our service is to get you the most competitive price possible for your Post Office energy contract. More about our electricity prices here. But what about after this?
First of all, we ask you for meter readings on the date your electricity or gas contract transfers to the new supplier (or if we have renewed with the same energy supplier). We also check your first invoice to ensure they have set up your account correctly.
Support during your energy contract
Looking ahead, you may well have a question or three during your contract. This could be something on your bill you are unsure about, perhaps the energy consumption, or the readings used for example.
You can call your energy supplier of course. This can often mean waiting on the phone for a considerable time. And then you discover the actions agreed on the phone call aren’t carried out.
Not surprising therefore, that our clients find us much more responsive.
We will resolve any questions you have, or problems you encounter, during your energy contract. We communicate in writing with our account managers at the different energy companies. Keeping correspondence in writing is important, as it means suppliers are accountable to their promises. And we keep you updated every step of the way.
I like what I hear, but who will send us invoices for our energy supply?
Your bills will be sent to you by whichever energy supplier you chose from the options we presented to you. These will be on the prices we agreed for your Post Office energy contract.
As mentioned above, if you have any questions about a bill, you can still call us for a quicker response. Or your supplier, entirely up to you!
For how many years should I fix my Post Office energy contract?
While choosing a 12-month contract will be the lowest rate, it may not be the best choice for your Post Office.
While your prices are fixed for 12 months, the wholesale price of electricity may be rising outside your contract. When you come to renew, the prices available could be considerably higher. For example, not too many years ago electricity rates were 8p – 9p per kWh.
Therefore, if the overall cost to your Post Office for the year doesn’t increase substantially by fixing for 24 or 36 months, we recommend looking long-term for price security. Of course, you must be comfortable in committing for this long as commercial energy contracts don’t have early termination options. If you are unsure, stick to 12 months at a time.
Electricity prices, may of course, fall at some point.
This is why we don’t recommend fixing your prices for longer, such as a 5-year contract. Unfortunately, many energy suppliers and unscrupulous brokers, will push you to fix your prices for this length of time. Prices for this long will be considerably higher as well.
While there is a chance this might turn out to be a good move, you have much less of a chance to take advantage of any falls in the wholesale price of electricity.
Energy companies allow us to confirm electricity rates up to 12 months before the start date. If you are in a 24 or 36-month contract, you have more chance of taking advantage of falls in price and saving money at the end of your contract.
If you are halfway through a 24-month contract, you can select prices for your next contract up to 12 months before it starts. Similarly, for a 36-month contract. You only have to wait a few months to take advantage of the lower electricity prices available.
