Medical practice electricity prices
Your medical practice electricity prices will have risen considerably in recent years. It wasn’t very long ago that electricity prices were 8p or 9p per kWh. As recently as 2014 in fact. However, electricity prices for a single rate meter can now range from 12p to 15p per kWh.
As a completely independent organisation, we work with more than 20 energy companies. Therefore we check prices from a wide range of suppliers. This clearly saves you a considerable amount of time.
Greater choice means more chance of lower prices. Call 020 3372 6517 for our latest electricity prices.
Your medical practice electricity prices, how we can help
Most medical practices are open for at least 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. So the price of electricity especially, will be driving your costs up. Electricity prices have been extremely volatile since early 2016. If your 3 or 4-year electricity contract is finishing soon, then prices for your next contract might make your eyes water.
A medical practice outside Cambridge came to us for advice. British Gas wanted to renew their electricity contract. Their current electricity rates meant their annual cost was £4,501, and the new electricity prices would be higher than this.
We were able to reduce the medical centre electricity costs to £3,496 per year on a 2-year contract. Thanks to our supplier relationships across the whole market.
This is just one example. Call us today for clarity on your electricity prices and contracts. Clear, professional advice from experts in the energy market.
Which direction are electricity prices heading?
Electricity prices are on the rise, there is no getting away from this. However, one call to us will give you:
- Access to excellent supplier relationships. We work with over 20 energy companies across the UK energy market. A typical online comparison site will work with half a dozen.
- Expert advice. Whether this be electricity prices, or just want to pick our brains about the energy market in general.
- Assistance throughout your contract. Once we set up your contract for you, we don’t say goodbye. We are with you for the long run. You can call us with any questions throughout your contract.
- Reassurance. We are completely independent and only have your interests at heart.
If you have a Half Hourly meter at your medical practice, you may have extra charges on your bill. These are explained in our section on Half Hourly meter prices.

Which electricity prices to choose for your medical practice?
Once we have taken your details, we will email you a price sheet with our best electricity prices from suppliers. This will include electricity prices for at least 12, 24 and 36 month contracts.
We recommend looking long-term in the current climate. Electricity prices per kWh will always be lower for a 1-year contract compared to say, a 3-year contract from the same supplier. If the difference in cost over a year isn’t too much, we think it is worth it for the long-term price security.
At the end of the day, you should opt for the contract length you feel comfortable with. If you are unsure about committing to three years, please choose a shorter term. Commercial electricity contracts don’t have early termination options, so you must be comfortable with the contract before you sign it.
Have you thought of a green electricity tariff?
It is always worth checking if a green price is available. The ‘green premium’ is nothing like it used to be. Renewable electricity generation has increased considerably in recent years. Between January and May 2019, 24% of electricity generation came from renewable sources.
As a result, green electricity is now an extremely viable option. In some instances, we have even seen green electricity prices lower (or very similar to) standard prices. It can depend how the market moves on a particular day.
Just ask us for a green option as well so you can compare the difference.
Why are electricity prices so much higher?
Medical practices, along with all businesses and charities, are having to deal with the increase in costs. This increase in electricity rates can be attributed to several factors:
- Increase in wholesale prices
- Rise in distribution charges
- Increasing government taxes and levies
- Higher CCL charges (from April 2019)
The wholesale price of electricity only accounts for around 50% of the price you pay per kWh. The other half consists of distribution charges made by the electricity network for transporting electricity around the grid to your premises.
Energy prices are difficult to predict. We are in regular contact with electricity suppliers, and they think prices will continue to rise for the foreseeable future.
Consider that nuclear power accounts for 25% of our electricity generation. Most of these power stations are nearing end of life and will shortly be shut down. With only Hinckley Point lined up as a replacement in several years, the UK will have to import more from abroad, increasing prices.
