Church energy buying group
Church energy buying group – or a specialist energy buyer? Churches tell us that our gas and electricity prices are substantially lower than their parish buying group.
Your church. Your church finances. We explain below how a church energy buying group will get energy prices, and how we, as specialists, get considerably lower prices. Call us for more information.
What is a Church energy buying group?
Churches are actively encouraged to use a church energy buying group for their energy contracts. In many ways, this is to be applauded. The Parish Buying Group, for example, promote green energy to help reduce the carbon footprint of churches around the country.
What churches aren’t encouraged to do, however, is shop around. They use a church buying group in good faith, presuming that as they are ‘affiliated’ to the church, they will be looking after their best interests. Certainly in terms of price. And customer service.
But with church gas and electricity prices some 10-20% lower elsewhere, why aren’t churches encouraged to shop around for their energy contracts?
Your church. Your church finances. To help you make a fully informed decision, we take a look at how a church energy buying group operates.
Why restrict yourself to one energy company?
A church energy buying group may rely on one or two energy suppliers only. Whenever a church energy contract nears the end, a church would normally shop around and check prices from other energy suppliers.
A church purchasing group, on the other hand, won’t do this. They just give the same church contract back to the same supplier. This is called an ‘energy basket’ which we explain more about below.
An established energy consultancy like Perfect Clarity, has a good relationship with 20-25 energy suppliers. Between these companies, prices vary considerably. We shop around towards the end of your contracts. We don’t mind putting the time in.
Relying on one energy company to have the best rates, is not necessarily the best way to buy your church energy. Whether it is green or standard energy, the supplier in question may not even be in the top half of all suppliers in terms of price.
Church energy basket
As mentioned above, a church energy buying group will often use an energy basket. As well as just being with one supplier, contracts in an energy basket will be aligned to start at one point in the year (usually September).
However, commercial energy prices – which churches are charged – can change weekly (depending on the supplier). Most energy suppliers will update their prices every few weeks in this sector.
The chances of the best prices being available at a set time of year, are extremely unlikely.
At Perfect Clarity, we have spent a lot of time developing very helpful relationships with energy companies in this regard. We can confirm prices with our suppliers, at any point from 6 months prior to the end date of your church energy contract. Some suppliers will also let us confirm prices up to a year ahead or longer.
Other suppliers are very responsive to changes in market prices.
So we have a great deal of flexibility. We contact customers at the most opportune time, when prices go through a dip. This can save your churches a considerable sum, especially in the current climate, with prices being so volatile.
Energy baskets perhaps make it too easy for a buying group – they package it as a ‘church offer’ but in reality, it means they doing very little work. They don’t even check prices from any other energy suppliers. And this can be reflected in the energy prices they provide churches.
It’s your church. Simply compare our green prices with your church energy buying group.
