Charity gas and electricity prices in the energy market
Working with such a wide-range of energy suppliers, puts us in a unique position to advise on your charity gas and electricity prices.
Prices are changing constantly. Most energy companies update their gas and electricity prices every couple of weeks. Others, on a daily basis.
With such a large number of suppliers, and many more tariffs, prices updated weekly (or daily), it can be a maze for the untrained eye.
Will gas and electricity prices go up or down?
While we can’t predict the future, we can discuss current trends. This may help you come to an informed decision about how long you decide to fix prices for.
Do you renew your energy contract for one year and hope prices will fall. Or fix for longer to protect against future price increases?
Your charity credit rating can affect prices
Energy companies always credit check businesses before offering a contract. However, most suppliers won’t credit check charities.
Some will do so though, so it is worth finding out your charity credit score. You can do this by calling Experian.
Smaller charities can often ‘drop off’ their system. If this is the case, they will ask you to complete a short form and they will update your credit rating in 2-3 days. This can give you a wider choice of suppliers to choose from. Some suppliers will have a lower credit threshold than others. We are here to help, so please call us with any questions.

Charity saves £1,410 on electricity charges
Back in 2012, a Surrey charity approached us as they were convinced they were paying too much for electricity at their offices. As a charity, you would expect your energy supplier to look after you and charge you a sensible price? Once on a proper contract, with the electricity supplier returning the best prices at the time, their annual electricity costs fell from £4,850 to £3,440.
We also ensured they had smart meters fitted, which meant they can monitor the electricity they use.
Supplier terms and conditions
With our in-depth knowledge of energy suppliers, we can make recommendations not only on your charity gas and electricity prices, but on other aspects of your contract too. For example, we can point out those suppliers you may want to avoid.
For example, their gas and electricity prices could actually change mid-contract. We read their small print, so you don’t have to.

“I highly recommend Perfect Clarity, Kevan has been so helpful with every aspect of switching our non-profit business from a supplier charging high rates to something very affordable.”

Hospice saves over £4,000
Clive asked us to look at the hospice electricity bill. He thought he had to wait until the end of the contract to renegotiate prices. So Clive was surprised to earn that suppliers would allow us to look at price up to a year ahead for him. With prices increasing almost weekly, this was a great opportunity for the hospice to lock in today’s prices, 10 months ahead of when they need them.
With annual electricity costs of more than £42,000, Perfect Clarity reduced this overhead by over £4,000.
Renewable energy tariffs
Renewable, or green, tariffs are also available for your charity. Please call us for advice and prices.
Green electricity prices
We have access to a wide range of renewable (green), electricity tariffs from many suppliers.
This is thanks to the strong relationships we have with energy suppliers. Most energy companies don’t promote or advertise their green tariffs at all. The general perception of green tariffs is that there is a large premium on them. However, this has fallen substantially in recent years. As such, the green electricity prices that suppliers provide, are usually very similar to the standard prices available at the time.
With more investment in renewables, green electricity prices should become even more competitive.
Customer service
Unlike comparison sites and some brokers, we don’t just set you up on a new contract, and leave you to fend for yourself. We are available throughout your contract should you need any assistance.
Why spend precious time on the phone to energy companies, when we can do that for you?
And if switching supplier, we can log opening and closing readings. And check your final invoice (from your previous supplier) and first invoice from the new supplier. Energy suppliers can occasionally make mistakes. So this ensures your accounts have been closed and opened correctly.

Fixed price contracts are the cheapest way to pay for business energy
Used, like most people, to domestic energy bills at home, Katherine presumed that a standard variable rate would be fine for the electricity at the office. Why not, their energy company didn’t tell them any different! In fact they kept pocketing their money month after month, and put the price up now and then as well.
This is the most expensive way to pay for your business energy bills – by switching to a fixed price contract, you will slash your annual costs.
Katherine’s charity reduced their electricity charges by £630.

Rehabilitation charity asks our advice on running costs.
Jo and her business partner were setting up a not-for-profit organisation that required a gym, to act as a rehabilitation centre for people or complete or partial paralysis. We advised Jo on the likely energy costs of the gym, based on similar sites we have arranged energy contracts for.
A year later, once they had the lease arranged, Jo was back in touch and we arranged gas and electricity contracts for the site. We advised on 1-year contracts initially, to confirm the energy used, and then we looked at longer contracts once we had a better indication of the typical electricity use for 12 months.
